Children's MinistryWe seek to provide an atmosphere that is welcoming and nurturing for children.
Our many activities, groups and special events make our children feel like they are an important part of the family of God. Providing high quality, faith-forming programs for children is a core commitment at BUMC!
Wesley Nursery School
BUMC is home to Wesley Nursery School which offers half-day programs for two, three and four year olds. For more information contact the school director, Diana Mears, at 301-654-5285.
Our Sunday School program for children includes fun, fellowship and learning for preschoolers through senior high youth. Kids will learn to "Live B.I.G." through our interactive lessons and incredible staff of devoted volunteer teachers. Classes meet from 9:50 to 10:40 a.m. each Sunday morning during the school year.
Kids With Purpose
KWP is an action-based outreach program that engages children in acts of Christian service. The mission is to develop awareness as well as foster and nurture a desire to help those in need. It provides an oppportunity for children preschool through 2nd grade to make a difference in their community, the world and help children develop a love for missions. KWP takes place during both of the morning worship services. The children are escorted by a KWP volunteer to the classroom following the children's message in worship. This ministry is volunteer led by loving congregation members.
Loving childcare for infants and toddlers is available during both worship services and Sunday School. Our paid staff person is assisted each Sunday by congregation volunteers. They'll take your cell phone number so they can text you if they need you to return.
Children's Story Time
Children are invited to come forward during each of our worship services for a children's message.
Children in grades 4 and 5 are invited to attend monthly, fun-filled gatherings during the school year. This program allows children to connect with church friends beyond Sunday School and give them a beginning look at what UMYF will be like as they look forward to middle school. During their time together they enjoy game nights, bowling, swimming, holiday parties and service projects.
Special Events for
Children and Families
In addition to our ongoing programs, there are several annual special events for children and families. These include: Adventicipation, Live Nativity, Easter Egg Hunt, All-Church Retreat, Trick or Treat for UNICEF, Don't Go to Church Service Weekend, Worship in the Park and much more!
